RESURRECTION OF BILL UNCONSTITUTIONAL- LAWYER

Maseru, Aug. 18 — Legal Representative for the applicants in a constitutional case on parliamentary issues, Advocate Fusi Sehapi says resurrection of the 11th Amendment to the Constitution Bill of 2022 as planned by the 11th Parliament will be unconstitutional.

This he said on Friday when addressing the High Court sitting as the Constitutional Court in a case in which Yearn for Economic Sustainability (YES), Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Lesotho and Kananelo Boloetse are against the recall of the 11th Parliament to discuss the Bill. The Speaker of the National Assembly, President of the Senate, Clerk of the National Assembly, the Minister of Law and Constitutional Affairs, the Senate House of Parliament, the National Assembly House of Parliament, His Majesty King Letsie III and Attorney General are the respondents in the matter.

The lawyer stated that upon dissolution of the 10th Parliament, its business died. He indicated that the manner in which the current parliament wants to pass the Bill means it will not be originating from the National Assembly. He said all processes should be followed afresh before the Bill is turned into law.
