Fans Urge LeFA to Protest Against South Africa

Maseru, March 26 – The Secretary General of the Lesotho Football Association (LeFA), Mr. Mokhosi Mohapi, has lodged a protest with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) against South Africa’s national team, Bafana Bafana, for fielding Teboho Mokoena in Friday’s match. The game ended in a 2-0 victory for Bafana Bafana against Lesotho’s Likuena.

Mohapi stated that he was referred to FIFA and is now awaiting further action on the matter.

The match was a CAF Group C qualifier for the FIFA World Cup. Meanwhile, football fans from various African countries have taken to social media, demanding that FIFA penalize Bafana Bafana by docking their points and goals and awarding them to Lesotho.

The controversy stems from claims that South Africa violated World Cup qualification rules by fielding midfielder Teboho Mokoena, who allegedly had accumulated two yellow cards and should have been suspended. Despite this, Mokoena played in all FIFA World Cup qualifiers except for the match against Benin.

When approached for a comment, Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos declined to discuss the issue, stating, “I cannot comment on that at this point. It is a matter that will be resolved in the coming days, so I ask that you do not expect any further information from me. No comment.”
