Maseru, Feb. 11 — Following the appointment of a new Directorate on Corruption and Economic Offences (DCEO) boss, Basotho National Party (BNP) Leader, Machesetsa Mofomobe has expressed his dissatisfaction with a four-page letter to the Prime Minister.
On February 10, the DCEO officers were informed that a Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) Brigadier Mantso Sello has been seconded to hold the position of a substantive Director-General.
Mofomobe, in his letter wrote, “I write to you as a matter of urgency, as a Member of Parliament and Leader of the opposition BNP. I have since learned on good authority, and indeed proceeded to read in today’s Sunday Express newspaper, of your good office’s intention to appoint to the office of Director-General of the DCEO, a certain Lieutenant-Colonel Mantso Sello who is a serving member of the LDF.
If this were to turn out to be indeed true, the act would have gravely deleterious implications for the public image, independence, functional efficiency, accountability and integrity of this hallowed institution: at this highly challenged juncture in the troubled journey of our country’s governance and national democracy.
