Qacha’s Nek, Sept. 20 — As snow blankets Qacha’s Nek, farmers are caught in a whirlwind of emotions, facing a stark divide between the wool and mohair producers’ fears and the grain farmers’ optimism.
For the wool and mohair community, the snowfall presents a potential disaster. In an interview with the Agency on Friday, Mr. Mothibeli Makhetha, Chairman of the Qacha’s Nek Wool and Mohair Growers Association, expressed deep concern about the ongoing shearing season coinciding with the harsh weather.
“This is a recipe for disaster,” he warned. Many farmers lack adequate shelter for their livestock, forcing them to keep sheep and goats indoors in a desperate attempt to shield them from the cold. “We do not even know how we can be helped,” Mr. Makhetha added, highlighting the rising casualties among their animals. . .
