SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT TO CLOSE SOME PAYPOINTS

Maseru, Apr. 30 — May will be the last month elderly people receive their grants at some pay points based in Maseru district.

According to the Minister of Gender, Youth and Social Development Mr. Pitso Lesaoana, such pay points include Mabote, Motimposo and Matala, saying this is because most elderly people who were receiving their money in these paypoints are now included in the digital payment system and those remaining will be given an opportunity to finalise registrations for digital payment.

He added that the pay points based at Ha Hlalele, Tikoe and Ha Makhoathi in the same district will be closed in June, saying all social assistance beneficiaries who were not able to register for digital payments in this district will get their payments at Maseru Post Office.

He therefore appealed to elderly people to register for digital payment, reminding them to go to the Department of Social Development offices based in the districts for assistance.

Meanwhile the digital payment is done in a form of Mpesa and Eco-cash and registrations are done during pay days at pay points.

In addition, withdrawal charges are incurred by the department of Social Development thus beneficiaries receive their money without any charges.
