Maseru, April 18 — The FIFA sponsored Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) Women’s Football Campaign is gaining momentum after visiting two districts of Mokhotlong and Mohale’s Hoek this month alone.
LeFA Women’s Football Desk Officer Ms. Joalane Tongoane told the Agency on Thursday that they spent three days in Mohale’s Hoek through the coordination of the Lesotho Primary School Sports Association (LEPSSA) as one of LeFA’S affiliates.
She said the purpose of the Women’s Football Campaign is to visit the highlands districts of the country where women’s football is still being considered as a male sport to try and encourage young girls at 15 and under to play the sport.
Ms. Tongoane said since football is seasonal in schools, they avoid conducting the campaign during school examinations or during athletics sporting competition to avoid clash of interests, hence they have chosen to conduct the girls soccer tournament during this period.
