MOLIBELI GOES HOME, MORAI TAKES OVER

Maseru, Feb. 24 — Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Dr. Mahlape Morai has been appointed as Acting Commissioner of Police for three months with effect from today (Saturday February 24 2024)

This was after the retirement of the Commissioner of Police (COMPOL) Mr. Holomo Molibeli whose term of service ended yesterday (Friday February 23 2024).

During a farewell ceremony held in Maseru for the outgoing COMPOL, the Prime Minister Mr. Samuel Matekane acknowledged Mr. Molibeli for serving in the office of the COMPOL until the end of his term. He pointed out that his skills and knowledge will always be cherished and needed. He wished him well in his future endeavours.

He appealed to the leadership of the Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS)to refrain from partisan politics as they divide the police service. He urged them to support Dr. Morai so that she can be effective in her duties.

The outgoing COMPOL acknowledged an opportunity to have served Basotho. He stated that in his 36 years of service within the LMPS, seven of which he was in leadership, he served under different administrations. He indicated that he has not had an experience similar to the one he had with the current government.

He said the current administration has not attempted to bring undue political influence within the police service. He emphasised that the conduct has brought unity and harmony amongst the police. He added that it has brought stability within the service which is needed to combat crime.

The Acting COMPOL expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the office of the COMPOL. She undertook to unite the LMPS members as well as to fight crime.

It is expected that there will be a passing of a baton between the outgoing COMPOL and the Acting COMPOL which will be witnessed by the public on Thursday next week.

The appointment of the COMPOL is made by the King, acting on the advice of the Prime Minister as provided for under section 5 of the Lesotho Police Service Act 1998.
