Maseru, Nov. 24 — Throughout the history of Lesotho, alcoholic beverages have enjoyed a lot of recognition as drinks that enhance social interactions amongst people with a World Health Organization (WHO) status report showing that Lesotho stands at about 9.1 percent of the country’s population being drinkers while 50.8 percent of the same population classified as long time heavy drinkers.
This emerged at the Anti-Drug Abuse Association of Lesotho (ADAAL) breakfast meeting which was held in Maseru on Friday.
Speaking at this event, the Founder of the association Ms. Mphonyane Mofokeng said that the purpose of the gathering is to create a platform where the association in partnership with the Southern African Alcohol Policy Alliance (SAAPA) can lobby, advocate for and influence political will and buy-in of the Tobacco and Alcohol Levy Act of 2023 in support of the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning.
