Maseru, Sept. 10 — Lesotho’s senior soccer squad, Likuena wrapped up the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group H qualifiers rooted at the bottom after being slapped with a 1-0 defeat by Ivory Coast played at newly built Stade Laurent Pokou stadium in San Pedro, Ivory Coast on Saturday evening.
The solitary goal of the game was scored by Ibrahim Sangare in the 16th minute of the first half which sealed the fate of the visiting Likuena in the continental tournament.
Despite dominating majority of possession throughout the game, the Elephants as the Ivory Coast is affectionately known by their followers, Likuena managed to ward off attacks with the defence marshalled by Sekhoane Moerane between the posts and Rethabile Senkoto, Rethabile Rasethuntsa, Motlomelo Mkhwanazi and Rethabile Mokokoane resolute in defence.
