Quthing, August 14 — Atleast 500 households from different villages in Mjanyane Community Council will get food assistance in a form of cash for three months, as part of nine months Drought Relief Project activities implemented by the Lesotho Red Crops Society (LRCS).
The relief project funded by International Federation of the Red Crescent (IFRC) is carried out in response to the Prime Minister ‘s declaration of state food insecurity emergency following 2023-24 Lesotho Vulnerability Assessment Committee (LVAC) report which revealed that more than 33 000 food insecure Basotho from Quthing district are among over 700 000 from countryside.
In an interview, the Quthing District Disaster Management Manager (DDM) Ms. Ts’epang Maama said each of the households will receive more than M1 500, while other project activities will include distribution of vegetable seeds and shade nets, training of Nutrition Clubs and maintenance of one identified clean water supply project within the community council. . .
