Mohale’s Hoek, April 13 — The District Medical Officer (DMO), Dr. Bokang Kojana says stool (faeces) tests of all students from Mt. Camel High School who complained about headaches and stomach issues came back positive to Typhoid Fever, otherwise known as Feberu Ea Mala caused by a bacteria called Salmonella Typhoid
Dr. Kojana confirmed this in an interview with the Agency, by noting that blood as well as Covid-19 tests were done to students but could not reveal anything wrong, hence the decision to run stool tests, stating after the results came back positive health officials were somehow relieved knowing what they were dealing with.
He indicated that those affected including teachers were treated, and highlighted typhoid normally surfaces during rainy seasons and among other symptoms is a terrible weight loss, urging everyone to boil water before drinking, and continue washing hands with soap and running water.
In conclusion Dr. Kojana pleaded with communities to visit nearest health facilities the moment they see the symptoms, noting it is very unfortunate that the life of a seventeen year old girl has been lost, which could have been avoided had the deceased been rushed to the clinic in time. MM/TL
